Internal Medicine Residency Program

Overview

Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center's Internal Medicine Residency Program is accredited past the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The program has 57 resident positions and they are all categorical.

Residency training at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center is an educational experience, in a congenial and nurturing environs, that emphasizes high standards of ethics and professionalism. Residents are expected to be caring, competent, ethical, intellectually curious, and passionate almost medicine. They volition be prepared for successful continuation in a fellowship training program or to otherwise enter into a career in General Internal Medicine. This is accomplished past interest in rigorous scholarly activities and by demonstrating skill in all aspects of clinical practice.

Internal Medicine Rotation Typical Schedule

During each year of preparation, the house officer assumes more than and more responsibility for direct patient care. Nosotros currently have a three +1 rotation schedule (iii weeks of inpatient + 1 week of ambulatory/outpatient) during each academic yr.

    *Note: The current rotation and coverage schedules are subject to change in accordance with Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Pedagogy's (ACGME) new policies and regulations regarding resident duty hours.

    Vacation

    Residents are entitled to four weeks of vacation per bookish yr.

    Didactic Curriculum

    The curriculum includes didactic lectures, faculty presentations, example studies, journal club, online courses and a "lath review by faculty". The curriculum repeats itself on an annual ground. Residents besides have the opportunity to teach medical students rotating through the section.

    Enquiry and Quality Improvement in Department of Medicine

    The plan places a strong emphasis on research and quality improvement in the Section of medicine and all residents are required to participate in a QI project during their residency.

    Residents receive training in Quality Improvement methodology through their didactic curriculum, online courses and the completion of mentored projects in various aspects of medicine. They attend departmental and infirmary quality improvement meetings and participate in patient safe rounds.

    Professional Development

    Residents receive personalized attending to their professional evolution through a mentored approach and individualized career counseling.

    The plan has an excellent tape of placement of its graduates in fellowship programs in the post-obit Sub-Specialties of Medicine: Nephrology, Infectious Disease, Hematology-Oncology, Endocrinology, and Elderliness.

    Salary and Benefits

    The program offers a highly-competitive salary and benefit parcel that includes funding for books, a meal allowance, and on-site reduced charge per unit parking. Senior residents also receive financial support for Internal Medicine Lath Review courses. In addition, residents attend other national meetings to present their research and quality improvement projects.

    Program Requirements for Graduation:

    • Residents must demonstrate successful academic progress.
    • Completion of scholarly piece of work and a quality improvement project.
    • Completion of online course piece of work in medicine, quality comeback, research methodology, and communication skills.

    Information for Residency Applicants:

    • Prospective applicants must have a minimum lath score average of 225 on USMLE Pace 1, Step two and have passed these examinations on the first attempt.

    • Prospective applicants apply through ERAS.
    • Application borderline: November 15
    • The program does not sponsor any visas.
